Flavorful Rice Recipes You Could Try Tonight!

On my TikTok channel, I just put up a video of how to make rice in a rice cooker. When I made the video, literally, the next day, my daughter called. (She’s the one I started making videos for). She asked how to make rice in the rice cooker. 😁🤣 WIN!!

So here (as promised) are some different flavorings to help dress up rice recipes. Remember, cooking is very forgiving! You can add more or use less of any of the spice amounts I put below. That’s what is meant when you see “to taste” in a recipe. These are TOTALLY simple, so you can probably dress up these recipes. Saute the garlic and onions before you add them, etc.

Rice Basics

  • Double the water for the amount of white rice. Brown rice will need more water.
  • 1 Cup white rice
  • 2 Cups water
  • Add flavorings to the rice as you are cooking.

Cilantro Lime Rice

  • 1-2 TBS lime concentrate or juice of 1 lime
  • 1-2 TBS butter or olive oil
  • 1-2 TBS chicken bouillon
  • After you cook it, add 1 C chopped cilantro

Chicken Rice (think Rice-A-Roni)

  • 1-2 TBS butter or olive oil
  • 1-2 TBS chicken bouillon
  • garlic, salt, pepper to taste

Mexican-Type Rice

  • 1-2 TBS chicken bouillon
  • 1/2 C salsa, or tomato sauce, OR 1 can mild rotel tomatoes
  • Spices (OR use a package or taco seasoning)

Indian-Type or Yellow Rice (really what we need is Rachna’s AWESOME rice from your wedding, Jillian. But for now, this is what I have).

  • 1-2 TBS butter or olive oil
  • 1-2 TBS chicken bouillon
  • 1 – 2 tsp turmeric
  • garlic, onion, salt, pepper to taste
  • you could also use ginger (maybe 1/4-1/2 tsp to start)
  • After you cook it, add 1 C chopped cilantro

Asian-Type Rice

  • 1-2 TBS soy sauce
  • 1 TBS chicken or beef bouillon
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

Coconut Rice (sweet rice)

  • 1 can coconut milk (you can use this in place of one of the cups of water in both sweet or savory dishes)

  • (optional: ) 1 TBS yummy mexican vanilla 🥰

Cinnamon Rice (this recipe from your Oupa Heine. sweet rice)

  • 1-2 TBS white sugar
  • (optional: ) 1 TBS yummy mexican vanilla 🥰
