Right now, I should be seeing the Ring of Fire Solar Eclipse of October 14, 2023, but unfortunately, the clouds are blocking it. Bummer! In August of 2017 when we moved to our current location we were in the path of totality of the full solar eclipse of 2017 and it was a stunning and breathtaking experience.
In honor of this rare celestial occurrence I’m sharing a poem that I wrote several years ago.
Sun and Moon
Oh, how she loves him,
Spending as much time as possible
Drinking in his light
Until the rules by which she is bound
Force her down to the other side of the earth.
She reflects his light to all until
He comes again and she can spend
A few precious moments
Taking in his radiance
Soaking in his warmth
And then, the pull of her laws
send her ever spinning away.
Ah, twilight! O early morning bliss!
When they meet in the sky
Momentarily touch
Moving in this orbit
Until the days and nights
Merge into one
When she has enough of his light
To explode into a matching,
Eternal, white-hot star
And finally, together
They will never again be apart.
